Alpha Fall Honoured at NGO Forum and 49th African Commission Session

Participants at the opening ceremonies of the Forum for the Participation of NGOs at the 49 Ordinary Session  of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (NGO Forum), and the 49th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights itself observed a moment of silence in honour of IHRDA co-founder Alpha Fall.

Hannah Forster, Executive Director of the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies (ACDHRS) eulogised Alpha and led participants in the moments of silence.

Alpha’s contribution to human rights in Africa has been immense. After working at the Secretariat of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, Alpha became co-founder of the IHRDA in 1997 and later its Executive Director. Alpha believed strongly in defending human rights, and he lived this passion unreservedly.

Alpha passed on on 21 April 2011 and was laid to rest at his home in St Louis, Senegal on 29 April 2011.
