njul, 5 May 2025: IHRDA and Centre de Documentation et de Formation sur les Droits de l’Homme in joint statement addressed to the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR) at its 83rd Ordinary Session in Banjul, The Gambia, decry discriminatory cybersecurity laws in Togo and restrictive civic spaces in Tanzania and Zimbabwe. We equally expressed alarm over the high prevalence of female genital mutilation in Liberia, and the continuous massive human rights violations in conflict-affected regions of Sudan and Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. We commended the ACHPR for its effort in documenting these human rights abuses, particularly through its ongoing fact-finding mission to Sudan. We equally urged the ACHPR to intensify engagements with State Parties to reform or repeal laws that undermine the enjoyment of fundamental rights and freedoms. Details:
